Description

Poly(ethyl vinyl ethers) (PEVE) is a linear, amorphous, non-ionic polymer derived from the polymerization of ethyl vinyl ethers. The Lutonal A series analog are specific grades characterized by their soft, tacky, and rubber-like consistency at room temperature. They are supplied as colorless to slightly yellowish, viscous masses or granules.

• Lutonal A25 analog: A lower molecular weight grade, softer and more tacky.
• Lutonal A50 alternative: A higher molecular weight grade, somewhat firmer and less tacky than A25.

Both are thermoplastic but have very low softening points. They are soluble in a wide range of non-polar and aromatic solvents and are compatible with many resins, oils, and waxes. They are known for their excellent adhesion, flexibility, and water repellency.

• Neutral & Stable: Chemically inert, non-corrosive, and offers good aging resistance.

Applications

1. Adhesives & Sealants:
   • Pressure-Sensitive Adhesives (PSAs): Used as a tackifier and flexibility enhancer in hot-melt and solvent-based PSAs.
   • Sealing Compounds: Component in plastic sealants and mastics for flexibility.
2. Coatings:
   • Flexible Protective Coatings: For textiles, paper, and temporary corrosion protection.
   • Primers: Improves adhesion of subsequent coats to difficult substrates.
   • Printing Inks: Modifier for flexographic and gravure inks to improve gloss and flexibility.
3. Polymer Modification:
   • Plasticizer/Tackifier: For other polymers like EVA, polychloroprene, and SBS/SIS block copolymers.
   • Blending Agent: To improve low-temperature flexibility and adhesion of rigid resins.
4. Specialty Uses:
   • Temporary Binders in ceramics or metallurgy.
   • Component in chewing gum bases (pharmaceutical grades).
   • Wax Modifier to improve flexibility and adhesion of polishes.
